Gmail:

I have been testing/using Gmail for about a month now. It is fantastic. Today, they increased my storage quota from 1 GB to 1,000 GB. I think, I will start storing my photos and eventually every file on my desktop. Come to think of it, this is 10 times more memory than what I have on my office or home PC

Daily newspapers have started reducing the width and length of their newspapers to cut cost. My guess is they would save easily 10 cents a paper. So a paper with a circulation of say 250,000 daily and much more on Saturdays and Sundays, would save close to $10 million a year. Maybe all that growth in Gannett's profits was from smaller size of its 79 newspapers.

Economy:

Long term interest rates have risen sharply in the past few weeks and stock market has declined by about 5%. Looks like inflation is coming back.

Google:

I have been trying hard to get another Gmail account but have had no luck so far. I wonder when Google will invite me?? I already have one account but want another one so that I can eventually get rid for my three yahoo, three myway, two netscape and four fastmail accounts. Yikes!! It sucks to have so many email accounts and remember so many passwords.

This has nothing to do with the economy: the latest talk in the aviation grapewine is that ATA and AirTran are talking about a merger. Now ATA has been looking at refinancing its debt but I don't know how the merger would help the two airlines. Margers in airlines haven't worked in the past because of differing work rules and compensation structure.
